Old Orange County Courthouse Wedding: Mabel + Emilio | Santa Ana, CA (09.21.19)

Mabel + Emilio

Old Orange County Courthouse - Santa Ana, CA

September 21, 2019

Not every wedding is a day long event and some couples go for the “elopement” style wedding instead. Just a few weeks before their wedding day, Mabel and Emilio booked me to document their civil ceremony at the Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana and I was thrilled because that building is gorgeous.

One to two Saturdays a month, the courthouse is open until 3:00 pm for couples to come in and get married on a first come, first serve basis. With Brides and Grooms everywhere along with hundreds of couple’s guests, the entire grounds inside and out was packed full as everyone waited their turn to be called in by a judge to perform their ceremony. Walking into the courthouse looked like a “weddingpalooza” and it was fun to see all of the other wedding photographers in action for their couples.

Mabel and Emilio invited their close family and friends to witness them say “I do” and although the ceremony was under three minutes in length, everyone was smiling and happy to be there in support, including their beautiful daughter. We were only given less than a minute in the room after the ceremony to take as many pictures as we could possible but thankfully the outside grass area was accessible for the two to snag some pictures with their family and friends.

Once we finished up with family pictures, I met Mabel, Emilio and their daughter at Sycamore Canyon Park in Diamond Bar for their hour session of their formal Bride and Groom portraits. The park has several trails, a creek and is covered in trees which gave me tons to work with but my favorite part of this location was the deck overlooking the creek at the beginning of the trail. We spent a majority of our time there as it added more depth to their pictures. We included their daughter for half of the session and kept the romantic poses for the end which turned out to be some of my favorites I’ve taken so far this year.

I know I say this after every wedding but it’s true, it was such a pleasure being able to work with Mabel and Emilio. My elopement packages have less hours covered so we made sure to make the best out of every minute we had available. It was a hot day for everyone so I appreciate their patience during it all and I wish nothing but the best for these two!

Congratulations again Mabel and Emilio!
