Couples Session: April + Tim | Joshua Tree, CA (07.21.19)
Couples Session | April and Tim
Joshua Tree, CA
July 21, 2019
Where do I even begin with the story of this couples session?! I linked up with April, who is a photographer herself, through a Facebook photography group as she was looking to trade sessions with another photographer in the area and I am so glad that we were able to schedule a couples shoot for her and her boyfriend Tim while he was in town visiting from WA.
April already had a few locations in mind but as soon as I heard Joshua Tree as one of them, I was instantly on board. I’ve never actually been into the Joshua Tree National Park and have always been wanting to do a couples session out there so you can imagine the excitement I had waiting for the day to come. Only negative of JT in July is the 100+ degree weather that stays until the sun goes down.
A few days prior to our scheduled session, I received a message on my business Facebook page from Tim asking me if we could talk without April knowing. Before I even made the call, I already knew where this was going. Tim confirmed my guess and asked if there was a way he could surprise April mid session by proposing. I went into full giddy girl mode in excitement for both of them and together we got it all planned.
We started off our session at a closed campsite in Joshua Tree next to Arch Rock which is accessible through the park’s entrance in Twentynine Palms. After waiting for the sun to lower more behind the surrounding mountains, we moved a little further down the road to get more wide open landscape shots and this is where the two would make a big leap into their future. Tim had bought April a bouquet of roses for their anniversary and wanted that to be the prop to hide the engagement ring in so he had a box made inside a fake rose and camouflaged it sneakily into the bouquet.
I had the two stand back to back and take a few steps away from each other, this gave Tim time to get the artificial rose and ring in place for my count to turn and face each other. Everything went exactly as planned when the two turned and locked eyes...well almost as planned. Tim got so nervous when he got down on one knee that he forgot to actually ask her to marry him. That made for a perfect memory for them and for some laughter through April’s tears of joy. So of course, Tim knelt back down and formally asked April to be his wife.
Everything about April and Tim’s session was a dream come true for themselves and for me too. I’m so glad that they trusted for this special moment and that I was able to help document it for them to forever remember. I’ll never forget this session and the couple that arrived as a dating couple and left an engaged one.
Congratulations April and Tim!
